Tuesday 28th November 9.30-12.30

“What’s all the fuss about the first 1001 days for?”

  • How early experiences, especially social and emotional ones, get embodied, i.e. epigenetic processes
  • The long-term effects that early experiences have

Tuesday 28th November 1.00-4.00

“How do we spot what’s good and what’s not in interactions between parents and babies.”

This session will look at;

  • What are the experiences that babies want and need in the first 1001 days
  • How much of these do they need
  • What does ‘good enough’ and ‘room for improvement’ look like in interactions between parents and babies
  • How do we use ourselves as sensors for this work

These sessions are aimed at professionals working with families with children under the age of two years old, including antenatally.  Some knowledge of and orientation to child development is assumed, but not in depth.  The sessions are intended to be more introductory and growing people’s knowledge.  People who have done specialist training in Infant Mental Health may well find them too general.

The sessions are stand-alone – either can be attended by themselves, or staff can stay for the whole day by booking onto both.

Please book either session by emailing Parentandbaby@pss.org.uk

Important info

Please note that lunch is not provided, and there are very few places to buy lunch in the area around the PSS building. If you are staying for the day, please take that into account.

The PSS building is around the corner from Sandhills train station.  There is a covered bike shed and a lot of free parking at PSS building – please park in a bay marked “Unit 16”.

Both sessions will be facilitated by Dr Michael Galbraith, Clinical Psychologist and Family Therapist.
