Place2Be is the leading children’s mental health charity. We provide in-school therapeutic and counselling support to improve the emotional wellbeing of pupils, families, teachers and school staff.

What does Place2Be do?

Place2Be provides emotional and therapeutic services in primary and secondary schools, we build children’s resilience through counselling, creative work and play. Place2Be works with 257 primary and secondary schools and we reach a school population of 105,000 children. We help them to cope with wide-ranging and often complex social issues. These include bullying, bereavement, domestic violence, family breakdown, neglect and trauma. We offer 20 years experience of providing a sustainable and integrated service at the heart of the school community.

What age group do you work with?

Ages 4-14.

Does you work with other family members?

We can work with parents, carers, teachers and school staff.

Is Place2Be limited to working with people from a specific geographical area?

No, we work nationally.

What are the opening times for Place2Be?

We are open from Monday – Friday 8.30am – 5.30pm but out of hours you can reach us on our answer phone.

Do you have appointments outside working hours?

Only in school hours and school based.

Do you have drop-in facilities?

Yes Place2Talk for children in the school we are based in so there are facilities they can use.

Where do you see young people?

Place2Be have a dedicated therapy room in each of their school projects so children and young people are seen in school.

Do you take referrals directly from children/young people, parents/carers?


If not, how can people refer in to your service?

All referrals come through school.


What kinds of things do you help with?

Place2Be seeks to improve the prospects of children aged 4-14 years because we aim to tackle the complex social and emotional issues that often lie behind the challenging behaviours and educational underperformance and as a result we hope our work has a positive impact on the whole class, and helps teachers focus on teaching and we also offer support for school staff and parents.

What do you offer?

Place2Be offers a flexible menu of services, tailored to meet schools’ needs. We work with children in primary and secondary schools, and offer children & young people support to cope with emotional and behavioural difficulties.

What happens after a referral is made?

For 1-1 work a full assessment is carried out.

Do you offer training in your specialist area?

Place2Be provides expert training on mental health and wellbeing for teachers and other professionals who work with children and young people. We do this so that we can help to build “mentally healthy” schools and communities. As a result we believe that all children can thrive and grow up with prospects not problems.
