Event overview

Alder Hey CAMHS will help you to take a fresh look at your skills in listening to children and young people. This half-day training will give you a framework for understanding the theoretical background to what is important in listening to children and critically reflect on your own professional practice through group exercises and discussion with colleagues. Children and young people often communicate their feelings and thoughts in very different ways to adults depending on their life experiences and levels of confidence and skill. We will explore together the meaning for the child of some of these communication styles and experiment with improving the quality of our listening, as well as taking a considered approach to our responding. Case examples will be used to understand how children and young people communicate in different ways. The session will be interactive and will create a space to connect with other professionals. No prior knowledge of this area is needed.
