Why did we develop this course?
Many people experience challenges with their mental health and wellbeing at some point, and seeking support can often feel overwhelming. For parents and carers, this can be even more difficult, as they frequently prioritise their children’s needs over their own, sometimes neglecting their own self-care in the process.
Mental health problems affect individuals in different ways and can range in severity. For parents and carers, the impact is often shaped by their personal circumstances and the level of support they receive. Stressful life events and ongoing pressures can further contribute to the development or worsening of mental health issues.
Parents and carers face unique challenges as they try to balance their mental health with the responsibilities of raising children.
About this course: Delivered by the MYA RAISE Team, this Bitesize course gives an introduction to some of the mental health struggles parents/carers may experience. It explores the specific barriers parents and carers may encounter when dealing with mental health difficulties. It will also examine how professionals can provide effective support, including guidance on signposting and accessing appropriate services.
