Different types of relationships

We are surrounded by many different types of relationships: family, friends, acquaintances, teachers, pets, partners and all sorts of other people.  When these relationships are healthy, then we thrive. They see us through the good times and help us through the bad times.  However, when a relationship is not healthy, this can have an impact on our wellbeing.

Healthy Relationships

All healthy different types of relationships are based on respect, trust and communication. This is true with any relationship whether that is your best friend, your teacher or your partner. It is usual to have more than one romantic relationship in your life. It is also fine to not be in a romantic relationship at all. The most important thing is that you choose to be in a relationship with someone and it should be a positive experience. There will be difficulties, but it should make you feel good about yourself.

Unhealthy Relationships

Unhealthy relationships are ones you may not feel happy with or find it enjoyable. Within these different types of relationships, there could be physical, sexual, psychological or emotional violence that takes place. If you start to feel powerless within a relationship it is important to seek help and speak to someone.
